The series Olivier reveals these strange forms – pictorially, by means of the texture which occupy the whole of the frame, and sculpturally by the volumes of the objects themselves, which take on an enigmatic aspect, close to totem or archaic masks. These images recall a scientific approach, with its claims to objectivity and distance, but they also have a tangible presence that invites a powerful imaginative implication. The series brings together the contradictory but indistinguishable functions of photographic image, which are as ever, to simultaneously attest and represent, to conceal and to reveal.
